Catching Hope

Looking for the grace of God that surrounds us

on October 8, 2009

Recently, a woman at church stopped me and said hello.

I said hello back.

She asked if I was married; I responded that I wasn’t.

Now, at this point, most people say something to the effect of, “Oh, well, hopefully someday!”, or “He’ll come along!”, or the ever-popular, “Once you’re satisfied in the Lord, he’ll come!”.

She said, “Good!”

And then in response to my quizzical look, she explained that people get married so soon they don’t have enough time to be effective for the Gospel.  I won’t get into my thoughts on that, maybe another day…

But then she said, quite emphatically, with a rather dramatic waving of her arms, “Congratulations!”

I thanked her, giggled to myself, and went on with my day.  I can’t say as I’ve ever been congratulated on my singleness before!
